Every Move, I Buy the Same Thing.

Does anyone else have that one item you always buy whenever you move into a new place?
No matter where you go, there’s always that one thing you grab to commemorate or maybe just solidify your new move.
Well, I realized I have mine.
Whether I was moving to a different state or just into a new apartment in Florida, I always bought the same thing. California, Colorado, and New York didn’t matter. The tradition stayed the same.
And here’s the funny part: there would be nothing else in my home. No personal belongings, no furniture, nothing. Yet the very first thing I’d do is head to the nearest Walmart, Safeway, Publix, or any other big store in that state, and buy it.
No, not a candle
Not flowers
Nor a cake
That item? A frying pan. Or, to be exact, a nonstick skillet.
I don’t know why, but it’s always the first and only thing I buy. Not a whole cookware set. Not a fancy or expensive one. Not even one with a lid. Just one singular frying pan.
And I never take the old one with me when I move.
The craziest part is, I didn’t even realize I was doing this until my grandma caught me one day.
“Did you buy your frying pan yet?” she asked.
Confused, I said, “What frying pan?”
Her response?“Every time you move, you buy a new frying pan.”
I was shocked that she noticed, and even more shocked that she was right.
Apparently, I have a tradition I never knew I started.
Now here in NYC, I’ve kept the tradition alive. But this time, I leveled up: I bought one that came with a lid.
So now I’m wondering, what’s your frying pan? That one thing you always buy when you move? Or that tradition you didn’t even know you had until someone pointed it out?
